NJ Property taxes: choose your battles wisely

The NJ State Health Benefits Program for Local Governments was hit with a recommended 36.5% rate increase for 2026. Our small city of Millville revealed that its health insurance premium rose 50% since last year before switching plans. Rural Downe Township is dealing with a shock ambulance cost increase of over 300%.
These costs land directly on property tax bills. Residents are already financially stressed. Frustration produces political dissent, not financial solutions.
I work this problem at the client level. I’ve had some success reducing property taxes, but it’s not a simple or repeatable strategy. Property taxes are hard to move at the individual level. Other taxes are not.
This month, for example, I saw a family business recognize an unnecessary $100,000 federal income tax on a business property that could have been easily avoided with timely advice. My usual advice: focus on the taxes you can actually move. Spend a little time each year building a tax reduction strategy with professional guidance. Avoid the social media-fueled nonsense and political blame game.
Trim your taxes quietly, privately, little by little, over the long term. My client service plans are designed to help with exactly that approach.
